Wi-Fi | FAQ
The wireless network at the University of Salerno is freely available to enrolled students and technical-administrative and teaching staff using the username and password given by the university to access this and other services. Temporary access is also available
to registered visitors (e.g conference or seminar participants, foreign students), involved in the world of teaching or research, who need to be connected for a limited amount of time, or authorized visitors to the campus.
Users are reminded that they must respect the law and regulations laid down in the Acceptable User Policy (AUP) of GARR, the network provider for Italian research.
It is possible to access the university wireless network using electronic devices with wifi capability, (protocol 802.11b/g/n), configured accordingly.
The following operating systems are supported:
- Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista, 7 and Mobile)
- Mac OS X (PPC and Intel)
- Apple iOS
The security policy varies according to the users and and what they are using the wireless network for. Networks called “Studenti” “Personale” and “Guest” are accessed through authentication and traffic is not encrypted. Security must be guaranteed by the user through the use of security protocols (p.e. https, ssl, tls). Access to the “eudoram” network is through authentication WPA/WPA2 and traffic is encrypted. Users are reminded that they must comply with the law and the regulations laid down in the Acceptable User Policy (AUP) of GARR, the network provider for Italian research.
Access to the wi-fi network, in the areas covered, allows the user to connect to high speed internet from portable pcs, notebooks and smartphones. Users can access the university wi-fi network, through their personal account, anywhere on the campus of Fisciano. To make the internet connection efficient in all areas of the campus, the university has set up total wi-fi coverage with around 600 access points which guarantee connection in all buildings (lecture rooms, libraries, offices, communal areas, etc) and outside areas (car-parks, squares etc)
