Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH METHODOLOGIES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF LITERARY TEXTS IN THE GERMAN LANGUAGE AND A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE GERMAN LITERARY TRADITION.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL:
-LEARN THE DISCIPLINARY BASICS OF THE STUDY OF GERMAN LITERATURE IN BOTH SYNCHRONIC AND DIACHRONIC PERSPECTIVES.
-UNDERSTAND THE LITERARY TEXT IN THE SPECIFICITY OF ITS LANGUAGE AS WELL AS ITS HISTORICAL AND HISTORICAL-CULTURAL CONTEXT OF REFERENCE.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-ANALYZE AND DESCRIBE LITERARY TEXTS
-UNDERSTAND THE TEXT IN THE SPECIFICITY OF ITS LANGUAGE
-DISCUSS THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE LITERARY TEXT TO THE SPECIFIC PHASE OF LITERARY HISTORY AND CULTURAL HISTORY

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- SELECT INFORMATION AND DATA
- IDENTIFY METHODOLOGIES APPROPRIATE TO THE ANALYSIS OF LITERARY TEXTS
- FORMULATE HYPOTHESES, RECOGNIZE LOGICAL CONNECTIONS, ARGUE, COMPARE AND EVALUATE LITERARY TEXTS

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- PRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, RESULTS OF THEIR OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING;
-CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS, OF A PUBLICISTIC OR LITERARY NATURE;
-PROCEED TO THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF HIS/HER OWN KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.

ASPECTS OF THE CLASSICAL-ROMANTIC AGE

THE COURSE OFFERS A PANORAMIC INTRODUCTION INTO THE CULTURAL HISTORY OF THE PERIOD RANGING FROM STURM UND DRANG TO ROMANTICISM. WE WILL ANALYZE SOME SIGNIFICANT TEXT OF THE TIME THAT, IN THEIR MULTIDIMENSIONALITY AND COMPOSITIONAL AUDACITY, ALLOW US TO EXPLAIN THE EVOLUTION OF THE NARRATIVE AND THEATRICAL GENRE FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. THE GUIDED ANALYSIS OF THE LITERARY TEXTS WILL AIM AT INTRODUCING THE STUDENTS BOTH TO THE POETICS OF THE INDIVIDUAL AUTHORS AND TO THE LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL PROBLEMS.
Teaching Methods
LECTURES. ATTENDANCE AT THE FRONTAL TEACHING HOURS IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. IF THE STUDENT IS UNABLE TO ATTEND AT LEAST 70% OF THE LECTURES IT IS RECOMMENDED TO FOLLOW THE PROGRAM FOR NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS.
Verification of learning
ORAL EXAM. THE ORAL EXAM INCLUDES QUESTIONS ON THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT, AND ON THE STYLISTIC AND STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS AND ON THE LITERARY AND CULTURAL VALUES OF THE LITERARY TEXTS LISTED IN THE PROGRAM. IN ORDER TO PASS THE EXAM, THE CANDIDATE MUST DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS AND TEXTS ADDRESSED IN THE COURSE AND INDICATED IN THE PROGRAM BY RESPONDING IN A PERTINENT AND ARTICULATE MANNER TO THE QUESTIONS POSED. HE/SHE WILL HAVE TO SHOW THAT HE/SHE POSSESSES SUFFICIENT OWNERSHIP OF THE LANGUAGE, AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT AND ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE.
