Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A BASIC PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL PREPARATION IN FRENCH. THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE TEACHING IS TO PROVIDE BASIC METALINGUISTIC COMPETENCE IN FRENCH AT A TEXTUAL LEVEL, TO BE ABLE TO SUMMARIZE A FRENCH TEXT INTO ITALIAN, AND TO ACHIEVE A LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE CORRESPONDING TO A2 LEVEL OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR THE KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES (CEFR). THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES WILL BE EVALUATED IN AN ORAL EXAM. THE COURSE CONSISTS OF A SIX-MONTH MODULE AND ANNUAL LANGUAGE TRAINING CLOSELY INTEGRATED AND COORDINATED BY THE PROFESSOR.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS:
-WILL KNOW ABOUT WRITTEN AND ORAL FRENCH IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE A2 LEVEL OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES;
-WILL KNOW ABOUT THE BASIC PRINCIPLES AND METHODS OF TEXT ANALYSIS;
-WILL KNOW ABOUT THE ORIGINS AND FOUNDATION STRUCTURES OF FRENCH
-WILL KNOW ABOUT THE PHONETIC NORMS OF REFERENCE OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE IN ITS PRACTICAL ASPECTS (PRAGMATIC LINGUISTICS)

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-SPEAK IN FRENCH ABOUT TOPICS OF THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT AND WORK: (BASIC PERSONAL AND FAMILY INFORMATION, SHOPPING, TRAVELING, DRIVING DIRECTIONS, EMPLOYMENT, HOBBIES, METALINGUISTIC REFERENCES OF FRENCH (CECR A2 LEVEL);
- TRANSLATE SHORT TEXTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES (NEWSPAPERS, ADVERTISING AND TOURISM) FROM FRENCH INTO ITALIAN.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-REFLECT ON THE FRENCH LANGUAGE FEATURES;
-DEVELOP SUITABLE STRATEGIES TO MANAGE THE FOUR LANGUAGE SKILLS (LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING AND WRITING)
-EVALUATE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXTS PRESENTED (FROM THE CONTEXT AND THE TEXT);
-DISCERN THE TYPES OF STRUCTURES, SETTINGS AND CONTENTS, TEXTS OF DIFFERENT KINDS (NEWSPAPERS, ONLINE ARTICLES, VIDEO SUBTITLES, YOUTUBE, FRENCH-SPEAKING WEBSITES)

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- COMMUNICATE IN EVERYDAY AND UNIVERSITY CONTEXTS IN FRENCH.
- PRESENT AND DISCUSS, THROUGH TEXTS OR IT TOOLS, RESEARCH RESULTS ALSO IN A COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE WITH THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE-CULTURE.

LEARNING SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE BASIC TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND SOME COMPUTER ANALYSIS RESOURCES;
-CARRY OUT EASY RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET SIMPLE, ADVERTISING OR JOURNALISTIC TEXTS;
-UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING WEBSITES OR YOUTUBE RESOURCES.

THE COURSE TARGET IS BEGINNERS OR STUDENTS WHO HAVE A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE LANGUAGE
Contents
THE COURSE PROPOSES BOTH A THEORICAL AND AN ACTIVE APPROACH WHICH OFFERS THE SKILL TO COMMUNICATE IN DAILY CONTEXTS: READING, UNDERSTANDING, SUMMARIZING SHORT TEXTS. THE TOOLS OFFERED WILL AIM TO DEVELOP THE SKILL TO ADAPT ONESELF TO SEVERAL COMMUNICATIVE SITUATIONS, BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN, AND TO TRANSFER EACH STUDENT DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF FRENCH CULTURE. GRAMMAR SKILLS AND DICTIONARY STUDY WILL BE PROPOSED FOR THE REFLECTION ON THE LANGUAGE, TO APPLICATE THE NOTIONS LEARNT. IN ORDER TO FACILITATE ANALYTICAL REFLEXION ON THE LANGUAGE, THEORICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL LESSONS WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH PRACTICAL LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES ANALYSIS IN CLASSROOM AND IN SELF-LEARNING MODE.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES 30 HOURS OF FACE-TO-FACE AND INTERACTIVE LESSONS + 80 HOURS OF LANGUAGE TRAINING WITH THE COLLABORATOR AND LINGUISTIC EXPERT.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS ONLY OF THE ORAL TEST SO STRUCTURED: VERIFICATION OF THE MORPHOSYNTACTIC AND LEXICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED DURING THE LESSONS; LANGUAGE CONVERSATION ON IN-DEPTH TOPICS IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN LINGUISTIC LABORATORIES; DISCUSSION OF THE TOPICS THAT THE STUDENT HAS CHOSEN TO DEEPEN INDEPENDENTLY DURING THE LESSONS; READING, TRANSLATION, CONVERSATION AND SUMMARY OF TEXTS REGARDING THE CIVILIZATION AND CULTURE OF FRANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF VERIFYING THE UNDERSTANDING, ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT. THE FINAL VOTE WILL BE THE RESULT OF THE AVERAGE OF THE MARKS REPORTED IN EACH EXAM.
TESTS DURING THE COURSE WILL SUBSTITUTE IN PART OR THE WHOLE FINAL EXAMINATION.
