Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO ACQUIRE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONING OF WRITTEN TEXTS AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DIFFERENT TEXT GENRES IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE ABILITY TO ANALYSE AND UNDERSTAND THE GERMAN LANGUAGE. IN ADDITION, IT AIMS TO ACHIEVE WRITTEN AND ORAL SKILLS AT THE B2 LEVEL OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (DESCRIPTOR 1 DUBLIN)
THE STUDENT WILL KNOW
- THE BASICS OF GERMAN GRAMMAR
- THE TECHNIQUES OF LINGUISTIC TEXTUAL ANALYSIS;
- WRITTEN AND ORAL SKILLS EQUAL TO LEVEL B2 OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (DESCRIPTOR 2 DUBLIN) - THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- ANALYSE AND INVESTIGATE CRITICALLY AND INDEPENDENTLY LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA IN THE VARIOUS TYPES OF SCIENTIFIC TEXT, FROM POPULAR ARTICLES TO SPECIALIST ESSAYS;
- STUDY IN DEPTH COMPLEX LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA AND PROBLEMS OF COMPREHENSION AND REFORMULATION IN DIFFERENT WAYS AND WITH DIFFERENT OBJECTIVES;
- ANALYSING AND COMPARING LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA ALSO THROUGH A CONTRASTIVE APPROACH (GERMAN-ITALIAN).

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT (DESCRIPTOR 3 DUBLIN)
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- USE ANALYTICAL TOOLS TO RECOGNISE LOGICAL LINKS, ARGUE ABOUT THE CONTENT AND LANGUAGE OF TEXTS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS (DUBLIN INDICATOR 4)
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- HAVE WRITTEN AND ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN PROFESSIONAL AS WELL AS SOCIAL AND ACADEMIC SITUATIONS;
- HAVE SKILLS IN IN-DEPTH TEXTUAL ANALYSIS.

LEARNING SKILLS (DUBLIN INDICATOR 5)
THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE
- METHODOLOGICAL SKILLS IN THE LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF TEXTS;
- MASTERY OF REFLECTION AND JUDGEMENT ON UP-TO-DATE CRITICAL AND COGNITIVE TOOLS THAT ENABLE THEM TO CARRY OUT RESEARCH IN THE PHILOLOGICAL, LITERARY AND ANTIQUARIAN FIELDS OF THE GERMAN-SPEAKING AREA.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE PASSED A GERMAN LANGUAGE EXAMINATION. HE/SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO INTERACT IN MOST EVERYDAY SITUATIONS, SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION IN KNOWN CONTEXTS RELATED TO HIS/HER FIELD OF INTEREST, SHOULD BE ABLE TO INTERACT IN FORMAL SITUATIONS. SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPRESS OPINIONS ON CULTURAL MATTERS AND UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS OR PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS (ORAL INTERACTION). CAN UNDERSTAND COMPLEX INSTRUCTIONS AND DIRECTIONS OF A CERTAIN LENGTH, UNDERSTAND ANNOUNCEMENTS OF VARIOUS KINDS AND NEW INFORMATION IN DETAIL IN TEXTS ON FAMILIAR TOPICS (I.E. FAMILIAR OR RELATED TO HIS/HER INTERESTS OR FIELD OF STUDY). CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND INFORMATION IN PERSONAL AND FORMAL CORRESPONDENCE (READING COMPREHENSION). CAN WRITE LETTERS OR TAKE NOTES ON FAMILIAR TOPICS OR ON FAMILIAR SUBJECTS (WRITTEN PRODUCTION).

WRITTEN TEST IN PREPARATION FOR THE ORAL EXAMINATION, CONSISTING OF THE COMPREHENSION OF A TEXT.
ORAL EXAMINATION AIMED AT VERIFYING THE MORPHOSYNTACTIC AND LEXICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED AND THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE, PRESENTATION IN GERMAN OF A TOPIC CONSISTENT WITH THE EXAMINATION PROGRAMME, AGREED WITH THE TEACHER.
