Objectives
THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES OF THIS COURSE AIM TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE ABILITY TO CHARACTERIZE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISCOURSE AND THE DIFFERENT METHODS OF TRANSLATION, AS WELL AS TO MANAGE BIBLIOGRAPHIC, LEXICOGRAPHIC AND TERMINOLOGICAL TOOLS AND THE MAIN LANGUAGE CORPORA OF THE RELATED SPECIALIZATION INDEPENDENTLY AND WITH A CRITICAL SENSE. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO ANALYSE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISCOURSE FROM A TRANSLATIONAL POINT OF VIEW, FOCUSING IN PARTICULAR ON THE SPECIFIC PROBLEMS OF LITERARY AND/OR AUDIOVISUAL TRANSLATION FROM SPANISH INTO ITALIAN.
THE LITERATURE AND LITERARY TRANSLATION CURRICULUM AIMS TO DEEPEN THE CRITICAL REFLECTION ON THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ISSUES CONCERNING DIFFERENT TYPES OF LITERARY TRANSLATION AND CRITICAL TEXTS.
THE LINGUISTICS AND DIDACTICS OF LANGUAGES CURRICULUM AIMS TO IMPROVE METHODOLOGICAL AND LINGUISTIC SKILLS WHILE FACILITATING THE TEACHING/LEARNING OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ALSO IN RELATION TO ISSUES OF DEFINITION IN INTERLINGUAL AND INTRALINGUAL TRANSLATION PROCESSES.
IN THE LANGUAGES FOR THE RESOURCES AND THE ECONOMIES OF THE TERRITORY CURRICULUM STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO CHARACTERISE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE AND WILL BE INTRODUCED TO THE MAIN TERMINOLOGICAL TOOLS AND DATABASES RELATING TO A GIVEN SPECIALITY FROM A TRANSLATIONAL POINT OF VIEW, LEARNING TO CONSULT COMPARABLE AND PARALLEL CORPORA. THEY WILL HAVE PRACTISED TRANSLATING FROM SPANISH INTO ITALIAN IN ONE OR MORE SPECIALIST LANGUAGES.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL
-FURTHER STRENGTHEN LEVEL C1+/C2 OF THE CEFR;
-DEEPEN METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR THE LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF WRITTEN AND ORAL TEXTS BELONGING TO DIFFERENT DOMAINS;
-DEEPEN THE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPEECH;
-CRITICALLY ANALYSE AND TRANSLATE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISCOURSE, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE DIFFERENT VARIABLES PRESENT IN LITERARY TEXTS
-DEEPEN THE ABILITY TO TRANSLATE COMPLEX ORAL AND WRITTEN TEXTS, ESPECIALLY FROM SPANISH INTO ITALIAN, AS IN THE PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE;
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO
-LINGUISTICALLY ANALYSE DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES AND CHOOSE THE TRANSLATION MODE ACCORDING TO THE SOURCE TEXT AND ITS PLACE IN THE TARGET LANGUAGE;
-ELABORATE AND TRANSLATE DETAILED AND ARTICULATED TEXTS;
-USE LEXICOGRAPHIC AND TERMINOLOGICAL TOOLS, CORPORA AND DATABASES USEFUL FOR TRANSLATION PRACTICE; CONSULT THE BIBLIOGRAPHY RELATING TO LITERARY AND AUDIOVISUAL TRANSLATION;
-ANALYSE DIFFERENT TEXTS TYPES OF THE STUDENTS’ OWN SPECIALIZATION;
-PRODUCE AND TRANSLATE DETAILED AND ARTICULATED TEXTS ABOUT COMPLEX TOPICS RELATED TO THE STUDENTS’ OWN SPECIALIZATION AS WELL AS USING DIFFERENT SOURCES;
-ELABORATE COMPLEX AND ARTICULATE TEXTS RELATING TO THEIR SPECIALISATION;
-TACKLE THE PROBLEMS OF RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION IN THE FIELD OF TRANSLATION.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- CONSIDER LINGUISTIC AND TEXTUAL PHENOMENA AS PROBLEMS TO REFLECT ON, ALSO FROM A TRANSLATIONAL POINT OF VIEW;
- CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISCOURSE, CONSIDERING THE POSSIBILITIES OF TRANSLATING THEM INTO ITALIAN;
- CRITICALLY ANALYSE THE TRANSLATIONS RELATING TO THEIR OWN SPECIALISATION;
- DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS OF RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION STARTING FROM WORKING ON TEXTS.
COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COMMUNICATE AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL IN SPANISH ON COMPLEX SUBJECTS, ARGUING THEIR POINT OF VIEW;
-CONFIDENTLY DEAL WITH ALL TYPES OF PROFESSIONAL, SOCIAL AND ACADEMIC COMMUNICATIVE SITUATIONS;
-PRESENT AND DISCUSS, BY MEANS OF TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF THEIR OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS;
- READ AND UNDERSTAND COMPLEX SPECIALIST TEXTS OF VARIOUS KINDS, PARTICULARLY THOSE RELATING TO THEIR OWN SPECIALISAT
Prerequisites
BEFORE TAKING THE EXAM, STUDENTS MUST HAVE PASSED THE SPANISH LANGUAGE IV EXAM.

CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS. THEORETICAL REFLECTION ON THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE ANALYSIS AND DESCRIPTION OF THE LANGUAGE AND REFLECTION ON THE PROBLEMS OF TRANSLATION.

THE COURSE CONTENTS ARE PARTLY (30 HOURS) COMMON TO THE THREE CURRICULA, PARTLY DIFFERENTIATED AND ENTRUSTED TO TWO DIFFERENT TEACHERS. THE COURSE IS ORGANISED IN TWO MAJOR AREAS, PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL:

A) THEORETICAL: REFLECTION ON THE PROBLEMS OF THE ANALYSIS AND DESCRIPTION OF THE LANGUAGE AND THE PROBLEMS OF TRANSLATION, WITH READINGS OF ESSAYS ON THE LANGUAGE (GRAMMATICS, LEXIC) AND TRANSLATION IN THE DIFFERENT WAYS; ON TOPICS EXTRACTED FROM THE ANALYSED TEXTS. MINOR RESEARCH ON LINGUISTIC AND TRANSLATION PROBLEMS.

B) ON THE PRACTICAL SIDE: ANALYSIS AND TRANSLATION OF LITERARY AND SPECIALISED TEXTS, DEPENDING ON THE CURRICULUM; CONSULTATION OF SPANISH LANGUAGE COURTS AND TERMINOLOGICAL DATABASES.

DEVELOPMENTS ON SOME GRAMMATIC ARGUMENTS BASED ON THE METAOPERATIONAL APPROACH; PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF THE ARGUMENTS TREATED. APPOINTMENT BY TASK.

FOR SPANISH LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION V:
THEORETICAL ISSUES OF LITERARY AND AUDIOVISUAL TRANSLATION. TEACHER-LED TRANSLATION PRACTICE.

FOR SPANISH LANGUAGE AND TECHNICAL TRANSLATION V:
REFLECTION ON THE PROBLEMS OF THE TRANSLATION OF SPECIALIST TEXTS, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO LEGAL LANGUAGE. TRANSLATION PRACTICE LED BY THE TEACHER.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES 125 HOURS OF DIDACTICS BETWEEN LESSONS AND PRACTICE (9 CFU):
45 HOURS OF LESSONS IN THE CLASSROOM (30 WITH PROF.SSA MARTÍN FOR EVERY STUDENT AND 15 HOURS WITH PROF.SSA RIPA OR WITH PROF.SSA MARTÍN DEPENDING ON THE "CURRICULUM") AND 80 HOURS OF SPANISH PRACTICE WITH THE COLLABORATOR AND LANGUAGE EXPERT.
THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED IN THE FOLLOWING WAY:
-LESSONS IN THE CLASSROOM ON THE COURSE TOPICS, WITH APPLICATION ACTIVITIES (THEORY CLASSES, ANALYSIS OF DICTIONARIES, TEXT ANALYSIS, TRANSLATIONS);
-INDEPENDENT WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT AT HOME AND DISCUSSED IN CLASS;
-ASSISTED PRACTICAL STUDY ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM OR IN THE LABORATORY WITH THE LANGUAGE EXPERT;
-SELF-LEARNING BASED ON THE BIBLIOGRAPHY AND OTHER INDICATED TOOLS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST, ON DIFFERENT DATES ACCORDING TO THE CALENDAR ESTABLISHED BY THE TEACHERS, WITH THE WRITTEN TEST PREPARATORY TO THE ORAL TEST AND WITH A SINGLE OVERALL FINAL GRADE.
ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE TWO TESTS (ONE IN EACH SEMESTER) INSTEAD OF THE FINAL WRITTEN TEST.
STUDENTS WILL ALSO HAVE TO DELIVER WORK DURING THE COURSE WHICH WILL BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE TEST.
PASSING THE WRITTEN TEST IS A FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENT IN ORDER TO BE ADMITTED TO THE ORAL TEST.
THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS OF A DISCUSSION OF THE TOPICS TREATED IN THE COURSE AND STUDIED ON THE BASIS OF THE BIBLIOGRAPHY AND OF THE REVISION AND COMMENTARY OF THE WRITTEN TEST WITH IN-DEPTH QUESTIONS AIMED AT ASSESSING THE AWARENESS OF ONE'S OWN MISTAKES AND THE ABILITY TO SELF-CORRECT, AS WELL AS A TEST OF VOCABULARY, OF METALINGUISTIC REFLECTION AND OF CONVERSATION THAT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN A C1-C2 LEVEL OF FCER.
