Teaching Methods
THEORETICAL LECTURES (28 HOURS), CLASSROOM EXERCISES (16 HOURS), BY USING THE PERSONAL COMPUTER FOR SIMULATION PURPOSES, AND LABORATORY (16 HOURS) WITH EXPERIMENTAL GROUP ACTIVITIES. LECTURES COVER ALL THE COURSE TOPICS.
EXERCISES CONCERN MAINLY SIMULATIONS ABOUT THE DIFFERENT TOPICS, ESPECIALLY BY WORKING IN MATLAB-SIMULINK. DURING LABORATORY ACTIVITIES THE STUDENTS WILL APPLY METHODS LEARNED ABOUT MODELING, CHARACTERIZATION AND CONTROL TO THE AIM OF PRODUCING AND ANALYZING EXPERIMENTAL DATA THAT ARE ACQUIRED THROUGH THE LABORATORY INSTRUMENTATION THAT IS AVAILABLE IN THE “LABORATORY OF POWER ELECTRONICS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY”.

Verification of learning
THE FINAL EXAM HAS A DURATION OF ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THE STUDENT HAS TO PRODUCE A 15 MINUTES PRESENTATION, FOLLOWED BY A 15 MINUTES DISCUSSION, CONCERNING THE SOLUTION OF THE ENGINEERING PROBLEM THAT WAS SUBMITTED TO HIM/HER DURING THE LECTURES AND THE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES BY THE PROFESSOR.
THE EXAM ALLOWS TO VERIFY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, ABILITY OF APPLYING THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, PRESENTATION AND COMMUNICATION ABILITIES, CAPACITY OF ELABORATING NEW SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS BY USING CIRCUITS, CONTROL METHODS AND ALGORITHMS STUDIED DURING THE COURSE. THE ABILITY OF PRESENTING RESULTS IS ACCOUNTED FOR IN THE FINAL EVALUATION.
THE FINAL MARK IS BETWEEN 18 AND 30 CUM LAUDE.

THE MINIMUM (18) IS GIVEN TO THE STUDENT SHOWS A WEAK ABILITY OF APPLYING METHODS AND A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROPERTIES OF COMPONENTS AND CIRCUITS PRESENTED IN THE COURSE.
THE MAXIMUM (30) IS GIVEN WHEN THE STUDEN SHOWS AN IN DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODS AND WHEN HE/SHE IS ABLE TO APPLY THIS KNOWLEDGE EFFECTIVELY AND ACCURATELY SUPPORTING THE CHOICES DONE.
THE LAUDE IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE SHOWS EXTRAORDINARY KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS TREATED IN THE COURSE, FULL OF DETAILS, AND HE/SHE IS ABLE TO ELABORATE IDEAS AND PUT TOGETHER THE CONCEPTS IN CONTEXTS THAT ARE EVEN DIFFERENT FROM THOSE ONES DESCRIBED IN THE COURSE.
