THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE UNIVERSE OF THE FAMILY BUSINESS AND ITS DIFFUSION ALL OVER THE WORLD, ABOUT FAMILY FIRMS’ DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS, FAMILY BUSINESS TRANSFER AND FAMILY BUSINESS’S CORPORATE GOVERNANCE MECHANISMS. THE ATTENTION IS FOCUSED ON THE THREE CIRCLES THAT CHARACTERIZE FAMILY BUSINESSES: COMPANY, FAMILY AND HERITAGE. PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS ADDRESSED TO THE SUCCESSION PROCESS, A CRUCIAL AS WELL AS STRATEGIC MOMENT FOR A FAMILY FIRM: IT COULD BE THE OCCASION FOR REVIEWING COMPANY’S VISION AND STRATEGY. THE EDUCATIONAL PATH AIMS TO DEVELOP STUDENTS’ READING AND INTERPRETATION CAPACITIES ABOUT FAMILY ENTREPRENEURIAL CHARACTERS AND IT FOCUSES ON THE MAIN FAMILY BUSINESSES’ PROBLEMS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO USE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO UNDERSTAND AND SOLVE PROBLEMS RELATED TO BUSINESS CONTINUITY THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF THE DIFFERENT GOVERNANCE MECHANISMS. PUT IT DIFFERENTLY, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY FOR EACH ENTERPRISE, THE MOST APPROPRIATE CORPORATE GOVERNANCE MECHANISM. |

FOR ATTENDING STUDENTS, THE FINAL GRADE WILL BE A MIXTURE OF: -WRITTEN FINAL EXAM (50%) THE WRITTEN EXAM AIMS AT TESTING KNOWLEDGE OF THEORY AND APPLICATION SKILLS. IT CONSISTS OF REVIEW QUESTIONS AND CRITICAL ASSESSMENTS OF TOPICS. IT IS RELEVANT FOR WRITTEN EXAM: CLARITY OF ANSWERS, ABILITY TO SUMMARIZE, EVALUATE, AND ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN TOPICS, AND THE CAPACITY TO CRITICALLY DISCUSS ISSUES. - PROJECT WORK PRESENTATIONS (40%) - CASE STUDIES ANALYSES AND INTERACTIVE CLASS DISCUSSIONS (10%) FOR PROJECT WORK AND CASE STUDIES IT IS RELEVANT: ABILITY TO WORK IN A TEAM, CREATIVITY, SKILLS IN CRITICAL THINKING, ABILITY TO TRANSLATE THEORETICAL CONCEPTS IN A PRACTICAL APPLICATION AND PRESENTATION SKILLS. GRADES DEPEND ON ATTENDANCE AND OVERALL ON CLASS PARTICIPATION DURING FRONTAL LECTURES, CASE STUDIES DISCUSSION AND OTHER STUDENTS’ PRESENTATION. FOR NON ATTENDING STUDENTS, THE FINAL GRADE WILL CONSIST OF AN ORAL EXAM. IT AIMS AT TESTING KNOWLEDGE OF THEORY AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. |
