Objectives
THE MODULE AIMS AT PROVIDING SOME UNDERSTANDING OF THE BASICS OF THE MARKET STRUCTURE AND ENVIRONMENT WITHIN WHICH BANKS OPERATE, AS WELL AS SELECTED ASPECTS OF THE APPLIED ECONOMICS OF THE MODERN BANKING FIRM.
KEY CONCEPTS AND MAIN DEVELOPMENTS IN MODERN BANKING WILL BE PROVIDED, PARTICULARLY REFERRING TO: THE ECONOMICS OF FINANCIAL INTERMEDIATION; BANK MANAGEMENT (FUNDING, LENDING AND OTHER SERVICES; PROFITABILITY; LIQUIDITY; RISK); THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MARKET STRUCTURE AND COMPETITION IN BANKING MARKETS; BANKS’ EFFICIENCY AND M&AS; THE LINK BETWEEN THE FINANCIAL SYSTEM, BANKS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH.
Prerequisites
STUDENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FAMILIAR WITH BASIC CONCEPTS FROM AN INTERMEDIATE UNDERGRADUATE COURSE IN TOPICS SUCH AS MICROECONOMICS, MACROECONOMICS, FINANCE, ECONOMETRICS.
