Research Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering group carries out research activities on theory and applications of electromagnetic fields and electrical circuits. The activities of current interest concern the theoretical study, the electromagnetic and / or circuit modelling and the design of electrical and electronic components and systems.

Research topics

  • robust analysis and design of electromagnetic systems;
  • electromagnetic characterization and treatment of nanostructured materials;
  • numerical models for the simulation of the dynamic behaviour of biological cells;
  • optimization and diagnostic tools of insulation systems for traction motors
  • analysis and design of power electronic circuits for numerous applications: photovoltaic, wind, fuel cells, LED, battery management systems, automotive;
  • design methods for power management with high energy efficiency in power electronic circuits;
  • algorithms for the monitoring and control of renewable sources based on digital controllers (DSP, FPGA);
  • development of linear and non-linear control techniques for switching circuits;
  • optimization of transformers for high frequency switching applications;
  • modelling, characterization and diagnosis of energy storage systems and fuel cells for stationary applications, electric / hybrid vehicles and smart grids;
  • modelling, control and diagnosis of photovoltaic systems.

Teaching activity

The group provides courses in Circuit Analysis for the First Level (Bachelor) Degree Programs in Industrial, Civil and Information Engineering. Moreover, the group provides courses on energy intelligence, electrical technologies, circuits and algorithms for industrial computing in the Second Level (Master) Degree Program in Computer Engineering, and courses in power electronic circuits in the Second Level (Master) Degree Program in Electronic Engineering.
