The Department of Industrial Engineering (DIIn) of the University of Salerno is born in 2011, by the association of researchers coming from Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Food Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The aim was to favor a balanced cultural growth of the different areas and allow more intense interactions with the industrial and research realities of the Campania region and, more generally, at national and international levels.

Nowadays, the DIIn brings together scientific and educational activities in the field of Industrial Engineering, with the contribution and integration of skills in the areas of Chemical and Food Engineering, Mechanical and Management Engineering and Electronic Engineering. prof. Roberto Pantani is currently the Head of the Department.

The Department, thanks to the synergies deriving from the collaboration between researchers from culturally similar areas, proposes itself as a scientific and cultural hub linking research and teaching experiences with the aim of becoming a point of reference for the territory, making available the skills in basic and applied research and favoring the vocation to innovation, technology transfer and the dissemination and enhancement of research products.

To this end, the Department of Industrial Engineering promotes collaborations with companies, research centers and public, private, national, EU and foreign bodies, making available its own expertise and experimental equipment for the solution of specific technical problems.

The Department also proposes itself as an incubator of new entrepreneurial realities, as evidenced by the spin-offs in the start-up phase or already started which it promotes.

The Department has laboratories, some of which certified according to the UNI EN ISO 9001-2000 standard, equipped with advanced analytical tools and pilot plants for the study of materials and nanomaterials, process analysis, testing of new technologies and materials, the development of technologies for the food industry, electromagnetic characterization of electrical and electronic systems, design and implementation of smart metering systems, automation of distributed systems, study and characterization of electrical systems and systems of generation from renewable sources, with the possibility of creating prototypes and manufactured products that allow the development of research and prototyping projects of relevant national, European and international interest.

A presentation of research activities, with involved researchers, collaborations, fundings and main references, is available at the page of Research and from the pages of the Academic Staff. Information on teaching activities is available at this page.
