The CELPE - Centre for Labour and Political Economics - was founded in 1991 by the Department of Economic and Statistics (DISES). In addition to DISES, it also includes the Departments of Business Sciences, Management & Innovation Systems, Political, Social and Communication Sciences - DSPSC, Legal Sciences - DSI, and Political and Social Studies.

CELPE promotes and supports research on topics related to labor economics, local economics, and economic policy.

In particular, the main research activities concern the labor market, economic growth and development, local labor systems, and industrial districts. Research activities are carried out by researchers from the University of Salerno, also in collaboration with colleagues from foreign universities.
