THE COURSE AIMS TO INTRODUCE THE MAIN ASPECTS OF NORTH AMERICAN LITERATURE AND RELATE THEM TO THE PARALLEL EUROPEAN MOVEMENTS. IT WILL ALSO FOCUS ON LITERARY LANGUAGE AND THE INTERACTION BETWEEN DIFFERENT CULTURAL PHENOMENA. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO OPPORTUNITY TO: - ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CULTURAL CONTEXT AND THE LITERARY WORKS RELATED TO THE COURSE; - UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEXT AND CONTEXT; - KNOW THE MAIN METHODOLOGIES OF TEXTUAL ANALYSIS AND THE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES AND THEORIES OF TRANSLATION. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - CONTEXTUALISE THE LITERARY TEXT; - COMPARE THE TEXT WITH OTHER TEXTS BELONGING TO DIFFERENT CULTURES; - UNDERSTAND THE MEANING AND THE FORMAL ASPECTS OF A LITERARY TEXT IN ENGLISH. MAKING JUDGEMENTS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: -FORMULATE AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENTS ON THE LITERARY TEXT; -USE THE MAIN CRITICAL APPROACHES TO THE LITERARY TEXT; -IDENTIFY THE MAIN ISSUES OF THE DISCUSSION, AND SELECT THE RELEVANT CONTENT AND THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CRITICAL VISIONS. COMMUNICATION SKILLS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO CONVEY INFORMATION, CONCEPTS AND AESTHETICAL JUDGMENTS WITH AN ARTICULATED LANGUAGE, BOTH IN ITALIAN AND ENGLISH. LEARNING SKILLS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND DATA STORAGE; - CARRY OUR RESEARCH ACTIVITIES; - CONTINUOUSLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE |

FOR THE 6 CFU EXAM, THE COURSE WILL BE OF 42 HOURS OF LECTURES. FOR THE 9 CFU COURSE, THERE WILL BE 54 HOURS OF LECTURES. IN BOTH CASES THE LESSONS WILL BE IN ENGLISH. THE PRIMARY TEXTS WILL BE IN THE ORIGINAL. |
Verification of learning | |

ORAL EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURSE. IT WILL EVALUATE BOTH THE CRITICAL READING OF THE PRIMARY TEXTS AND THE ABILITY TO INTERPOSE THE CONTENTS OF THE SECONDARY TEXTS. SOME QUESTIONS WILL VERIFY THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT, BESIDES THE BIO-LITERARY PROFILE OF THE AUTHORS OF THE PRIMARY TEXTS. |
