General objective. The course aims to provide a knowledge of written and oral English language equivalent to the B2 level of the CEFR, allowing the acquisition of adequate written and oral communication skills such as to allow the key points of common topics to be understood relating to one's interests, free time, etc., to move with ease in situations that may arise while traveling in the country where the language studied is spoken, to produce a simple text relating to personal interests, express experiences and events, to briefly explain the reasons for his opinions and projects. Furthermore, the student will be introduced to the sectoral English (ESP) of their course of study, with particular attention to the characteristics of the scientific text. Knowledge and understanding. Upon passing the end-of-course exam, the student will have acquired adequate knowledge and understanding of the foreign language in its linguistic structures, in particular phonetics, morphosyntax and lexicon; consequently, considerable mastery of the four skills necessary for correct communication in English-speaking environments will be obtained. At the end of the course, the student will therefore possess linguistic and cultural competence relating to the English language at level B2 as described in the CEFR. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. The student will be able to recognize and analyze different text typologies from a linguistic perspective, and in turn develop texts relevant to their disciplinary area with high accuracy in grammatical terms, respecting the norms and style of the English language. Furthermore, they will be able to apply this knowledge to formal and informal contexts, making use of various more or less complex morpho-syntactic structures and demonstrating the ability to work independently or in a group. Autonomy of judgement. The student will be able to produce accurate metalinguistic reflections and coherent self-evaluations of texts relating to their field of study. The critical and interpretative ability will be proportional to the level of knowledge and competence acquired, therefore such as to allow the student to collect and select data and recognize its relevance on socio-cultural current affairs relating to the English language, also from an intercultural perspective. Communication skills. The student will be able to effectively and correctly convey general data and particular knowledge of his/her field of study through more or less complex syntactic structures; he/she will have adequate skills for communicating concepts and information relating to his/her field of study in English, studies, in written and oral form, or mediated by IT tools or in first person in international and/or intercultural contexts. The student will also be able to express ideas, personal judgments and negative and positive aspects of topics outside of their fields of study, modulating the linguistic register based on the context. Learning ability. The learning ability will be stimulated through the continuous application of the theory through regular use of the workbook, aimed at fixing the notions encountered during the lesson and verifying the actual understanding and acquisition of the topics covered. |
