THE COURSE AIMS TO HAVE STUDENTS OBTAIN LINGUISTIC AND COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN ENGLISH AT THE B2/C1 LEVEL ACCORDING TO THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE. IT FURTHER AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE NECESSARY TOOLS TO EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH WITHIN ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL CONTEXTS, AS WELL AS TO UNDERSTAND AND USE SPECIALIZED LANGUAGE RELATED TO THE SOCIAL SCIENCES CONFIDENTLY. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND CRITICALLY ANALYZE ENGLISH TEXTS RELATED TO THEMES AND TOPICS PERTINENT TO STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL FIELDS. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY ELEMENTS AND STRATEGIES OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LINGUISTICS TO THE ANALYSIS AND PRODUCTION OF TEXTS IN ACADEMIC AND SPECIALIZED ENGLISH; DEMONSTRATE AN EXCELLENT UNDERSTANDING OF THE PHONOLOGICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL, SYNTACTIC, AND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE; APPLY LINGUISTIC, COMMUNICATIVE, AND CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE OF WRITTEN AND ORAL ENGLISH. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO SELECT, USE, AND ANALYZE RELIABLE ENGLISH SOURCES AND ASSESS STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THEIR (ORAL AND WRITTEN) ENGLISH PRODUCTS. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH EFFECTIVELY, FLEXIBLY AND WITH AWARENESS AT THE B2/C1 LEVEL FOR PROFESSIONAL PURPOSES. LEARNING SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DEVELOP THEIR LANGUAGE SKILLS, EVEN AUTONOMOUSLY. |

THE COURSE IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH. THE COURSE IS A LABORATORY AND LESSONS ARE THEREFORE INTERACTIVE AND PRACTICAL IN NATURE, AND COMPRISE COLLECTIVE BRAINSTORMING ACTIVITIES, APPLIED EXERCISES, AND A VARIETY OF STRATEGIES TO DISCUSS ASPECTS OF SPECIALIZED ENGLISH. |
Verification of learning | |

THE FINAL ASSESSMENT CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN EXAM AND AN ORAL EXAM. THE 60 MINUTE WRITTEN EXAM AIMS TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT TO WHICH STUDENTS HAVE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCES IN SPECIALIZED ENGLISH. THE WRITTEN EXAM MUST BE PASSED TO ACCESS THE ORAL EXAM. THE ORAL EXAM AIMS TO DETERMINE WHETHER STUDENTS HAVE ACQUIRED SPECIALIZED ENGLISH SKILLS AND CAN COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH AT THE B2/C1 LEVEL. THE ORAL EXAM IS BASED ON THE DISCUSSION OF THE THEMES OF THE COURSE. THE EXAM OUTCOME IS: PASS/FAIL. |
