Objectives | |

The teaching aims to achieve linguistic-communicative competence at least at level B2-C1 according to the common European framework of reference. The course mainly aims to provide the necessary tools to communicate effectively in English in academic and professional contexts and to understand and use specialized languages with ease. Knowledge and Understanding The student will be able to understand and critically analyze specialist texts in English relating to the English language and linguistics and to other topics related to relevant academic and professional fields. Applying knowledge and understanding The student will be able to: apply elements and strategies of English language and linguistics to the analysis and production of texts in academic and specialist English; demonstrate excellent knowledge of the phonological, morphological, syntactic and semantic features of the English language; correctly apply linguistic, communicative and cultural knowledge of English in written and oral use, in production and interaction. Making judgements The student will be able to select, use and constructively criticize reliable sources of information in English and to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their own products (written and oral). Communication skills The student will be able to communicate in English at level B2-C1 effectively, flexibly and consciously. Learning skills The student will be able to improve their language skills, even through self-learning. |

The course will focus on the following topics: - Englishes and English as a lingua franca (6h) - The language of marketing (6h) - Communicating brand, image, and reputation (6h) - Persuasive messaging (6h) - English for professional purposes (6h) Clarifications and insights on phonological, morphological, syntactic and semantic aspects of the English language will be integrated. |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
Lessons are held in English. The teaching consists of lectures and debates with the active participation of students aimed at promoting the use of English and critical analysis skills. The lessons are characterized by moments of collective brainstorming, written and oral exercises and practical applications of theoretical reflections and textual examples. Attendance is highly recommended. |
Verification of learning | |

The evaluation consists of a written test and an oral test. The written test lasting 60 minutes is aimed at ascertaining the knowledge and skills of academic and professional English. You must pass the written test to access the oral exam. The oral test is aimed at verifying the acquisition of specialist English and communication skills in English at level B2/C1. The oral test also aims to verify the level of knowledge of the topics covered and the mastery of expressive techniques in English to support a position and to discuss the topics of the course. The outcome of the final test is evaluated as: passed/failed. |
