THE COURSE PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE METHODS OF CONDUCTING RESEARCH. IT INTRODUCES THE BASICS OF POSING RESEARCH QUESTIONS, IDENTIFYING SUBJECTS AND OBJECTS OF EMPIRICAL EXPERIMENTS, CONDUCTING STATISTICAL AND QUALITATIVE DATA ANALYSES, AND COMBINING MULTIPLE RESEARCH METHODS. |

Contents | |
---|---|
- HOW TO FORMULATE RESEARCH QUESTIONS. - HOW TO CONDUCT SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEWS. - EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN. - STATISTICS FOR EMPIRICAL RESEARCH, E.G., DATA EXTRACTION, REGRESSION ANALYSIS, STATISTICAL TESTS. - EMPIRICAL QUALITATIVE METHODS AND ANALYSIS, E.G., SURVEYS, SEMI-STRUCTURED INTERVIEWS, FOCUS GROUPS, AND CONTROLLED EXPERIMENTS. - MIXED-METHOD EMPIRICAL RESEARCH |

THE THEORY IS DEVELOPED THROUGH FRONTAL METHODOLOGICAL LECTURES (3 CFU, 18 HOURS) TO TRANSFER THE REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND TOOLS FOR PROJECT ACTIVITIES. AS PART OF THE COURSE, CASE STUDIES OF RESEARCH PROJECTS ARE PRESENTED TO ANALYZE THEIR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
LEARNING ASSESSMENT IS BASED ON AN EXAM WITH GRADES ON A QUALITATIVE SCALE. THE POSSIBLE GRADES ARE, IN DESCENDING ORDER: OTTIMO (EXCELLENT), BUONO (GOOD), DISCRETO (FAIR), SUFFICIENTE (PASS), AND INSUFFICIENTE (FAIL). THE EXAM CONSISTS OF INDIVIDUALLY DESIGNING AND REPORTING AN EMPIRICAL EXPERIMENT LEVERAGING THE METHODS SHOWN DURING THE COURSE. THE PROJECT WILL BE DISCUSSED IN AN ORAL EXAM. |
