Plantae Medicinales Mediterraneae. Plants for Health in the mediterranean traditions

The UNESCO Chair Plantae Medicinales Mediterraneae, founded in June 2020 at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno, emerged through a robust collaboration with esteemed partners: the Division of Humanities at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), USA; the Institute for the Preservation of Medical Traditions in Washington, DC, USA; Traditional Mediterranean Medicine in the Monastic Republic of Mount Athos, Greece; the Minerva Gardens of Salerno; and the UNESCO Chair of Genoa. Leveraging this extensive network, the Chair fosters collaboration with numerous Mediterranean universities and institutions. Its primary goal is to promote the equitable and sustainable utilization of effective medicines derived from traditional knowledge and local resources. By doing so, the Chair endeavors to preserve and share a tangible heritage—a repository of invaluable wisdom accumulated from diverse Mediterranean cultures across centuries.
